REUTERS/Arnd Wiegmann/File PhotographZURICH (Reuters), Eric Varvel is the chairman Credit Suisse (SIX.) He is leaving the Swiss bank where he has been working for the past three decades. This was confirmed in a memo that was reviewed by Reuters.
The memo by Chief Executive Thomas Gottstein stated that James Walker had been named CEO ad interim Credit Suisse Holdings USA, Inc.
Varvel was not mentioned in the memo. Financial Times reported last week Varvel had been in discussions to leave due partly to his disagreement with Antonio Horta Osario (Credit Suisse’s new Chairperson).
Eric was a bright, positive and determined leader who we all appreciated. Gottstein noted in the memo, “He has formed remarkably lasting and deep relationships with colleagues as well as clients.”
Eric has made a significant impact on our institution’s people, clients, and staff over many years. This is based upon many conversations I have had with him.”
