Canada to challenge U.S. softwood lumber duties under USMCA

(Reuters) – On Tuesday, Ottawa submitted a notice in opposition to U.S. duties on Canadian softwood lumber as part of the U.S. Mexico Canada (USMCA), Trade Agreement. Mary Ng from Canada’s Trade Ministry stated in a statement.

Canada’s lumber and softwood industries are a major component of Canada’s forestry industry. They contributed over $25 Billion to the national gross domestic product (GDP) in 2020. It was almost doubled by the United States to 17.9% in last month.
