Rep. Scott Perry first lawmaker to be asked to answer questionsFrom the investigation of Jan. 6 Capitol Riot, Tuesday stated that he would not cooperate with the probe.

In a series of tweets, the Pennsylvania Republican called the congressional select commission “illegitimate” as well as “not duly constituted” according to House rules.

Perry tweets, “I decline this entity’s request.”

House panel investigating Jan. 6, invasion. Hundreds of Trump supporters invaded Capitol, forcing lawmakers to leave their chambers. This temporarily stopped them from confirming the victory of President Joe Biden in the Electoral College. Trump’s falsified claim that the 2020 election had been “rigged”, arousing many mob members.

Perry was one of many Republican legislators who voted against the Electoral College results in a crucial state that Biden won after the rioters fled the Capitol.

Select Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., in a letter MondayPerry was requested to meet with members of the panel and give them a range of records. This included communications with Trump’s legal team and Trump himself.

The Select Committee is extremely respectful of the rights and privacy of Congress members. Thompson also wrote that the Select Committee has a solemn obligation to fully investigate all facts and conditions.

In the letter, it was stated that evidence suggested that Clark had been linked to Congressman Jeffrey Clark. Clark is a former Department of Justice official. clashed with the select committee’s efforts to have him testify as part of the probe.

CNBC reached out to Perry for clarification, but a spokesman from the Jan.6 probe didn’t immediately reply.
