First Omicron case detected in Gaza, Palestinians say -Breaking

GAZA (Reuters] – The Palestinian health ministry announced Sunday it had detected the Omicron Coronavirus variant.

Majdi Dhair, a ministry official said that the carrier was a Gazan resident infected with the virus within Gaza’s coastal territory.

Dhair explained that the variant was being spread in Gaza because it had been first detected in South Africa and Hong Kong. The under-developed health system of the enclave is now facing a fresh challenge.

We are well ahead of the difficult times. He said that it is likely the Omicron version will quickly spread,” he stated to reporters.

Gaza is home to 2.2 Million people and has seen 189.837 COVID-19-related infections as well 1691.

Dhair encouraged Gazans not to get vaccinated and put the number of people who have received shots at about 40 percent.

Three cases of Omicron variant were detected in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The number has since increased to 23 among the 3 million Palestinians, according to Palestinian health officials.
