HERZLIYA, Israel (Reuters ) – Israeli foodtech startup SavorEat has launched a plant-based burger product that is customized to every customer. This company was one of the very first to employ 3D printing technology in order to prepare food.

Vegan burgers by Impossible Foods (NASDAQ:), are usually frozen, then later on cooked on a barbecue.

SavorEat uses a 3D printer to create its technology. It has three cartridges that contain oils or other ingredients. The burgers take about six minutes each to make and can be customized with the amount of fat and protein that they desire.

Racheli Vizman is SavorEat’s chief executive. She said, “It’s a mixture of innovation in meat substitute and digital manufacturing where it can also cook the products.”

She explained that the firm’s burgers use a mixture of potato, chickpea, and pea protein.

Health- and environment-conscious customers have increased demand for vegetarian meat substitutes in recent years. In 2020, alternative protein startups made more than $3B.

Redefine Meat in Israel, another Israeli firm, has launched European-style meatless whole cuts.

SavorEat was funded mostly by Israeli institutions. On Tuesday its Tel Aviv-listed shares increased 11% to $11 each.

Yarzin Sela is also involved in the collaboration. Yarzin Sela supplies Israeli high-tech firms and has forged an agreement with Sodexo, PA: to provide vegan burgers for U.S. universities.

Vizman spoke of a growing group of “flexiterians” — those who actively seek out meat alternatives and reduce meat consumption. Vizman is speaking on behalf of about one-third the U.S. populace.

SavorEat’s chairman and chief scientist, Oded Shhoseyov said that the company is currently working to develop a vegan version of the breakfast sausage.
