WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – President Joe Biden is encouraging Americans to reject lies in his remarks Thursday on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of Jan. 6, 2017, insurrection at America’s Capitol. This was carried out by former President Donald Trump supporters.

Biden (a Democrat) defeated Republican Trump during the 2020 election. But the former president falsely claimed the vote had been marred by fraud. Biden’s speech just two weeks before his inauguration urging supporters to fight fueled a deadly riot in Washington, a symbol U.S. democratic democracy.

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are slated to speak at the Capitol on Thursday and the White House said Biden would assign “singular responsibility” https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-president-biden-lay-out-trumps-singular-responsibility-jan-6-attacks-2022-01-05 to Trump for the violence a year ago.

The riot resulted in four deaths and one death for Capitol police officers.

“And so, at this moment, we have to decide which kind of nation are we going to become. Is it possible to accept political violence as the norm in our nation? Is it possible to allow political election officials to overturn laws and the will of the people? The White House has released excerpts from Biden’s remarks.

Are we going to live in a country that believes lies and lives by the light of truth? This kind of nation is not possible. “The only way forward is for us to see the truth and then to act on it,” he’ll say.

Biden’s advisers and he have resisted speaking directly to Trump in the first year of his term, preferring instead to work on their own agenda.

However, the ex-president continues to tell lies about his loss. He may run for President again in the 2024 elections.
