(Reuters) – BuzzFeed Inc has named Christian Baesler chief operating officer. This is a position that was vacant for more than seven years, just one month following the disappointing debut of the digital media company on the Nasdaq.

Since Jon Steinberg left his position in 2014 as COO, the company is without a chief operating officer.

BuzzFeed’s acquisition of Complex Networks resulted in Baesler joining the company last month. He will remain as chief executive officer. Complex’s operations and portfolio of brands have been under his control since 2018.

BuzzFeed shares plunged by as high as 17% upon its launch, following its merger with blank-check business. This was after a frenzy of withdrawals from investors.

The stock of the company fell 51% in one month, from $10.95 opening on December 6th to around $10.95 closing on Dec. 6.
