U.S. defense secretary tests negative week after contracting COVID-19 -Breaking

WASHINGTON (Reuters] – U.S. Defense secretary Lloyd Austin was negative for COVID-19 on Sunday, a week after he contracted the illness. He plans to report to work Monday at the Pentagon.

“Secretary Austin is thankful for the efficacy (of) vaccines he was given.” John Kirby, Pentagon spokesperson (NYSE 🙂 said that Austin knows the vaccines made it much easier to avoid the severe effects of the virus. 

We know of no other high-ranking Pentagon officials who are currently infected with the virus.

The highly contagious Omicron variant causes an increase in infection rates. Last week, the U.S. announced that it will tighten restrictions on the Pentagon. This includes requiring all employees to work remotely, and restricting official visitors.
