LONDON (Reuters), – Boris Johnson, Britain’s Prime Minister, was under attack Tuesday following revelations that his secretary had hosted over 100 guests at a “bring you own booze” party in Downing Street’s Garden during the first coronavirus lockdown.

Johnson was a winner in 2019 by a wide margin. This month, Johnson has come under scrutiny after video footage showed his staff laughing at jokes about Downing Street during a lockdown for 2020.

Popular dismay at revelations regarding a variety of Downing Street parties has led to criticism from Keir Sternmer (opposition Labour Party leader), who stated that Johnson was lacking the moral authority and the ability to lead the country.

Johnson and Carrie, his partner, were among the 40 people who met in Downing Street’s garden on May 20, 2020. This was after Martin Reynolds, the PM’s Principal Private Secretary, sent out an email inviting them. ITV (LON:) reported.

Reynolds wrote in an email, “After what had been an incredibly hectic period we thought it would nice to make use of the beautiful weather and enjoy some socially distant drinks in No10 garden tonight.”

We invite you to join us starting at 6 p.m. and bring your own beer!

The gathering was held in closed schools. Pubs, bars, and restaurants were also shut down. Social mixing was strictly controlled. The gathering was closed to all but the most ill.

The police arrested people who had parties and set up checkpoints randomly in certain areas. In Derbyshire, central England they used drones to inspect beauty spots.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, 150,154 people died in the United Kingdom. This is the seventh-worst official COVID death toll, after Brazil, India and Russia.

Johnson’s Office declined to comment about the ITV report. Sue Gray (a senior official in the government) is investigating claims that five individuals were detained last year within government departments during lockdown restrictions.

LOCKDOWN PARTIES

Johnson stated last month to parliament that the COVID guidance was followed and that no rules were broken. There had also been no Downing Street party.

Opponents of Johnson’s position said that Johnson would have been in danger if he attended a party during lockdown as this would indicate a disdainful pattern for Johnson’s rules.

Ed Miliband of Labour Party, an ex-leader, said that it felt like the prime minister is trying to show his character.

Ruth Davidson, former leader of the Scottish Conservative Party, questioned what Downing Street was thinking. She said that voters would be furious.

“People (rightly so) furious,” Davidson stated on Twitter (NYSE :). “They gave so much, including visiting grieving family members and funerals.

Johnson (57) has been criticised for his handling of the sleaze scam, awarding lucrative COVID contracts and the renovation of his Downing Street apartment. Johnson also claimed that he intervened in order to evacuate pets from Kabul as part of the Western withdrawal.

Edward Argar (a junior minister in the health ministry) said that he could understand the pain caused by the news reports, especially for those who have lost loved ones and friends.

Sky News was told by him that he would not comment on the ongoing investigation.

London’s police previously refused to investigate claims that government officials were locking down gatherings. On Monday, they said they had been in touch with the Cabinet Office regarding the allegations of Downing Street violating health protection laws.
