United has had zero Covid-related deaths among vaccinated employees for 8 weeks, CEO says

United AirlinesIt has not had any Covid-related deaths among nearly 70,000 of its employees within eight weeks. The airline’s vaccine mandate is responsible for this trend, according to CEO.

Scott Kirby, Chief Executive Officer of United States told employees Monday night that about 3,000 United employees were positive for Covid. He said that zero are being hospitalized.

“Prior to our vaccine requirement, tragically, more than one United employee on average *per week* was dying from COVID,” Kirby wrote in a staff note. “But we’ve now gone eight straight weeks with zero COVID-related deaths among our vaccinated employees – based on United’s prior experience and the nationwide data related to COVID fatalities among the unvaccinated, that means there are approximately 8-10 United employees who are alive today because of our vaccine requirement.”

The airlines of other countries didn’t respond immediately. United’s vaccine mandate was in place prior to the Biden administration, which required federal contractors (like major airlines) to either mandate vaccinations or provide a religious or medical exemption for employees.
