U.S. drops criminal case against case MIT professor over China ties -Breaking

BOSTON (Reuters). – On Thursday, the U.S. Justice Department dismissed charges against a Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor who was charged with concealing his ties in China during a request for federal grants money. It is the latest defeat in a U.S. crackdown on Chinese influence on U.S. academic research.

In a Boston court filing, federal prosecutors said that new information has emerged about Gang Chen, a Chinese-born engineer and nanotechnologist. This information could be used to support the charges of wire fraud and others against him.
