(Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives Committee investigating the Jan. 6th 2021 attack on Capitol might hold public hearings, according to one of its members. This was in addition to the scheduled dates of February and March for witnesses, the member of the committee told MSNBC.
They are trying to determine the exact actions of Donald Trump during his time as President. Thousands of Trump supporters vandalized Capitol, attacked police officers and sent U.S. Congressmen Mike Pence and the Vice President Mike Pence running for the lives.
Representative Jamie Raskin said to MSNBC that “I know the members are hopeful that it occurs by the end February or March”. He added that Trump supporters were “more dragging than they can bear” and that this would make it more difficult for them to begin the process.
However, he reminded the audience that he was one of nine committee members and didn’t have ultimate say. Bennie Thompson (the chairman of the committee) has said that they aim to hold hearings in spring.
It is urgent that the members of the committee finish their work before November’s midterm congressional elections. Republicans have a strong chance to win back control of the House, and this could lead to the shutdown.
About 400 witnesses have been interviewed by the committee. Hundreds of subpoenas were issued to force testimony.
