China’s food delivery giant Meituan has become the latest tech firm to integrate central bank digital currency (CBDC) payments for its services.
Meituan customers can connect the digital wallet with their app to use for various daily services, such as booking hotels and cabs or paying at restaurants. The daily service app for food delivery and services recorded 660,000,000 transactions last year. The integration of e-CNY payments could help the Beijing government test out its digital sovereign currency even more broadly.
