Tim Cook of Apple Claims Metaverses Have “Potential”Many large companies have expressed concern about the growing popularity of metaverses since fall 2021. Steam has banned games that use blockchain technology from its digital stores, but Epic Store welcomes them openly. Meta declared its commitment to the advancement of this technology. Square Enix, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts (NASDAQ) also supported metaverses. For their part, Apple (NASDAQ:) had remained neutral on the topic – that was, until now.
During the company’s Q1 2022 earnings call, Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple, commented:
“Well, that’s a big question [the Metaverse opportunity and Apple’s role in that market]However, we are a company that is involved in business innovation. We’re constantly exploring new technologies and have spoken extensively about why it’s so interesting for us. There are over 14,000 AR Kit Apps in the App Store that provide amazing AR experiences to millions of users today. So we see a lot of potential in this space and are investing accordingly.”
