News Corp says one of its network systems targeted by cyberattack -Breaking

(Reuters) – Wall Street Journal parent News Corp (NASDAQ) stated that on Friday, one of its networks containing sensitive business data, as well as personal information of customers, had been the target of “persistent cyberattack activity”.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment on a WSJ report https://www.wsj.com/articles/cyberattack-on-news-corp-believed-linked-to-china-targeted-emails-of-journalists-others-11643979328 that said cybersecurity firm Mandiant’s investigation of the attack showed the hackers “likely meant to gather intelligence to benefit China’s interests”.

David Wong (Vice President of Consulting at Mandiant), stated to Reuters that Mandiant believes the people behind the activity are connected to China.

News Corp claims that the threat to its employees is under control and offers guidance. This was according to a WSJ report which quoted a person who has knowledge of the situation.

According to the report, the attack on January 20th affected Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal as well as the New York Post headquarters, Dow Jones, Wall Street Journal, New York Post, News Corp Headquarters, and UK News Operations.

“The company was subject to cybersecurity threats and has expected to continue being exposed to them,” Rupert Murdoch owned-News Corp stated. Rupert Murdoch’s owned-News Corp stated that it is impossible to predict that cybersecurity threats or activities such as those discovered in January 2022 would have any material adverse effects in the near future.
