LONDON, (Reuters) – The British Prince Andrew will testify next month in the sex abuse case brought against Virginia Giuffre by the United States of America. A source close to him said Saturday.
The Duke of York, who denies accusations that he sexually abused Giuffre two decades ago when she was 17, will speak under oath in London, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reported.
“We agreed that the Duke would be voluntarily produced for depositions on March 10, according to our source. According to Reuters, despite repeated requests Ms. Giuffre has not committed to a specific date or place for her deposition.
Giuffre (38) sued Andrew in August alleging that he beat her and trafficked her to the former financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew, 61 admitted to meeting Epstein sometime in 1999. He denied Giuffre’s claim that he had “committed sexual abuse and battery on her.”
Andrew’s connections to Epstein (who committed suicide in Manhattan prison cell while waiting for sex abuse trial) have hampered his standing with the British Royal Family and damaged his image.
Andrew was removed from military and political patronages by the Andrew family last month. The second son of Queen Elizabeth will no longer be known “His Royal Hideness”.
Giuffre’s suit was dismissed by the prince’s attorneys, who also accused Giuffre of seeking another payday.
Giuffre was awarded $500,000 as part of a civil settlement reached with Epstein in 2009.
U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan said that the trial could start between September 2022 and December 2022.
Andrew might owe Giuffre damages, if Giuffre is successful at trial. Her request for unspecified damages was granted.
Andrew is not being criminally charged and Giuffre can’t bring any criminal charges in the civil case.
