REUTERS/Kim Hong-JiSEOUL (Reuters) – South Korea’s antitrust regulator is looking into U.S. Electric Car Maker Tesla (NASDAQ) Inc. It was accused of exaggerating the specifications of its battery, an official from the Korea Fair Trade Commission(KFTC) stated on Tuesday.
Yonhap reported late Monday that the KFTC sent a letter to the maker of electric vehicles (EVs) stating it had exaggerated some models’ mileage, in violation of Act on Fair Labeling and Advertising.
According to a KFTC official, “We will hold a meeting in order to determine the severity of the sanctions against the automaker.” Reuters was told by Reuters.
Tesla claims that its Model 3 can travel 528km (328 miles) with a single charging charge. KFTC warns that range could be reduced if temperatures drop below freezing.
An analyst stated that most electric cars may experience reduced driving range during cold temperatures.
When Reuters reached Tesla for comments, he wasn’t immediately available.
