(Reuters.) A Michigan judge will hear preliminary evidence on Thursday in order to determine if there is enough evidence to support the filing of charges for involuntary killing against parents of a teenager who was accused of shooting four high school students to death.

James Crumbley and Jennifer Crumbley were accused of purchasing the gun as Christmas presents for their son Ethan, 15, and not paying attention to warning signs until the morning of the shooting at Oxford in Michigan.

The son of the victim was already charged with murder in 2021’s most violent school shooting.

They all pleaded not guilty.

Thursday’s hearing is part of the second day in preliminary proceedings. During this time, prosecutors will present evidence to Judge Julie Nicholson of Rochester District Court. Her decision will be made as to whether there is sufficient evidence for the case to go to trial.

Prosecutors called witnesses on February 8 to describe the relationship of the couple, how it was with their son, and their reactions when they heard about the shooting.

Oxford High School was 40 miles (65km north) of Detroit and saw six victims and one teacher get hurt.

This is the first case in which parents of teenage school shooting victims have been accused of involvement in their alleged crimes.

The latest in a series of school shootings across America that has been going on for decades was this one.

Ethan went with his dad four days before the shooting to buy a handgun in a gun store.

According to prosecutors, his mother reported that they were “testing out his Christmas present” at a gun range the next day.

Prosecutors also cited a variety of warning signs, which they claimed the parents did not address. This included Ethan Crumbley looking for ammunition with his cell phone.

Ethan Crumbley’s drawings depicting a pistol, a bullet and a wounded figure were discovered by a teacher on the morning of the shooting. After school officials called the Crumbleys, they were summoned. Prosecutors said that the parents refused to take their son home, and didn’t search his backpack or ask about the gun.
