ToyotaAfter a cyberattack on a supplier of plastic parts and electronic components, the company said that it would suspend domestic operations Tuesday. This follows the loss of around 13,000 vehicles.

It was not immediately clear who or what the motivation was for the attack. Although it is unclear if there was any connection between the attacks and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Japan has joined Western allies to clamp down on Russia.

Kojima Industries spokeswoman said that it was a cyberattack. Toyota’s spokesperson described it as “supplier system failure”.

This production stop comes at a time when the largest automaker in the world is trying to address supply chain disruptions caused by Covid, which has forced other carmakers around the globe to reduce output.

This month, Toyota saw some North American production stop due to part shortages resulting from the Canadian trucker protests.
