The sites were replaced by anti-war messages and requests to end President Vladimir Putin’s invasion in Ukraine.
“Dear citizens. The message urged citizens to put an end to this madness. Putin forces us to lie, and puts us at great risk.
The Russian state news agency TASS’s website was among those affected. Fontanka.ru, rbc.ru as well as news sites rbc.ru.ru.ru.ru were all also down. Several websites displayed the message.
As Russia faces increasing economic isolation just four days after its invasion of Ukraine, ceasefire talks began at the Belarusian frontier on Monday.
Russia asserts that its forces intervened to liberate Ukraine from military conflict in “special military operations”. State communications regulator warned foreign media and tech companies against false portrayals of Russia’s activities online.
We have been separated from the entire world and they have stopped buying oil or gas. “In a few more years we’ll be living like North Korea,” continued the message. What is all this? To allow Putin to be in the history books. Let’s end Putin’s war.
Russian media claimed Anonymous, an amorphous, online activist group, was the one responsible.
