LONDON, (Reuters) – More than 4/5ths of British citizens reported a rise last month in living costs. Official data released on Thursday also indicated that stormy weather has impacted consumer spending.

According to the Office for National Statistics, 81% of those surveyed between February 16 and 27 said their living costs had increased in the past month, compared with 76% the two previous weeks.

The week ending February 24th saw spending on debit and credit cards fall by five points to 93%, compared to its average pre-pandemic of February 2020. This is likely due to the effects of Storm Eunice which caused extensive damage to the travel industry and disrupted travel.
