Tornado slams central Iowa, killing at least six -Breaking

(Reuters) – Six people died in a tornado which struck Winterset, Iowa on Saturday. The Des Moines Register reported the incident, citing local officials.
The newspaper reports that the tornado hit the area southwest of Des Moines, causing extensive damage. Des Moines lost power after heavy storms which affected more than 10500 residents.
According to the National Weather Service, it was an EF3 tornado. This means that it was swirling at winds up to 206 mph (332 kph). On Twitter, the agency stated (NYSE:) that it considered the situation “extremely hazardous.”
Initial reports indicated that only two people were killed in the tornado’s destruction of Winterset and its surrounding communities.
