China targeted dad of Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu, new DOJ case says

The Justice Department is going to accuse Chinese government agents, among others, of waging intimidation campaign against American critics, NBC News reports.

A press conference has been scheduled by the Justice Department at 2 p.m. to discuss allegations and charges.

According to NBC News and sources familiar with the matter, three distinct alleged Chinese government attempts were made against U.S. critics.

Arthur Liu was a San Francisco lawyer and activist. He is also the father to Alysa Liu (16), an Olympic figure-skating champion from the United States who represented the American team at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

According to NBC, Arthur Liu was involved in organizing pro-democracy demonstrations while he was living in China.

Unidentified Democratic candidates for Congress on Long Island, New York were another victim of intimidation. In court records, the name of the candidate is not disclosed.

This candidate is Xiong Yan who appears to have been a former U.S. Army chaplain and was part of the 1989 Tiananmen square protests in Beijing.

Yan will be seeking the Democratic nomination to the New York 1st District House of Representatives seat.
