(Reuters). A Russian court on Thursday reversed a ruling which would have banned Samsung Electronics from importing and selling 61 model smartphones in Russia. The decision was made over an Intellectual Property lawsuit, which began last year.

This decision does not mean that Samsung’s sales are restricted under Russian law. However, Samsung stated this month that it will halt Russian device shipments due to “geopolitical developments”.

After sanctions imposed by the West on Russia in response to Ukraine’s crisis, many foreign companies have stopped doing business with Russia.

SQWIN SA, a Swiss-based company, filed a lawsuit last year against Samsung Pay alleging that Samsung Pay had infringed the Russian patent for electronic payments.

Samsung appealed against the original ruling, and SQWIN SA tried to impose interim measures. However, this ban was not implemented.

Russia’s RIA news agency reports that the Russian court upheld Samsung’s appeal.

A request by email for information was ignored and the court did not respond immediately.

Natalia Gulyaeva is a managing partner of Hogan Lovells Moscow. She was one of Samsung’s legal advisers.

Samsung expressed its appreciation for the decision. SQWIN SA didn’t immediately reply to our request for comment.

Oct.’s court decision listed 61 Samsung models that the company could not import or sell in Russia. The patent numbers were cited in the ruling.

Data provider Counterpoint revealed that Samsung was Russia’s top-selling handset manufacturer in the fourth quarter 2021. It had 30% of the market, beating Apple (NASDAQ;) and Xiaomi (OTC.) by 23% each.
