(Reuters) – Ford Motor Co (NYSE:) Co announced Monday that the European semiconductor shortage has caused a reduction in vehicle production as well the cancellation of orders for vehicles in Europe.

American automaker, General Motors USA announced it was closing its German plant in Saarlouis/Cologne due to a global shortage of chips. This also caused it to cease accepting orders for new S-Max or Galaxy cars made in Valencia (Spain).

Russia’s invasion in Ukraine has also caused part shortages at the Volkswagen (DE) plant, Poland, that produces Ford’s Tourneo Connect car. This led to temporary production halts, Ford stated.
