Pfizer recalls some lots of blood pressure drug due to potential carcinogen -Breaking

(Reuters) -Pfizer Inc announced Monday that it would recall Accuretic, a blood pressure medication for high blood pressure and two cheaper generic versions due to elevated levels of nitrosamine. This is a possible cancer-causing ingredient.

Pfizer (NYSE:) said https://www.pfizer.com/news/press-release/press-release-detail/pfizer-voluntary-nationwide-recall-lots-accuretictm it has not received any reports of adverse events related to the drug till date.

The common presence of nitrosamines in water, food, and beverages includes meats such as grilled and cured, and milk products. The risk of developing cancer could be increased if you are exposed to these impurities for long periods.

Pfizer stated that there are no immediate risks to patients who take the drug.

The drugmaker advised that patients who are currently using the product should talk to their doctors about other treatment options.

Pfizer Canada recalls Accuretic because of the same impurity.

Due to the presence of high amounts of a drug called nitrosamine, Chantix was also recalled by the drugmaker last year.
