WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – President Joe Biden left Washington on Wednesday to meet with European leaders regarding the conflict in Ukraine. He also brought with him plans for additional sanctions. Sources claim that this includes members of Russia’s parliament.

Biden will be visiting Brussels to meet NATO leaders, and then visit Warsaw to consult with Andrzej Duba.

Western leaders are increasingly worried that Russian President Vladimir Putin might use chemical weapons to escalate his invasion strategy, four weeks after his forces failed to seize a single city in Ukraine.

Biden stated Wednesday that Russia’s use in Ukraine of chemical weapons is a danger.

He stated, “I feel it’s an actual threat.”

Two sources close to the situation say that Biden and his staff have been planning to impose sanctions upon members of Russia’s Duma. This is in response to Russia’s invasion. On Thursday, the sanction will be made public.

The spokesperson from the White House stated that “no final decision has been made as to who or how many sanctions we will make.”

According to the official, “We will announce additional sanctions in coordination with our allies” on Thursday.

According to Jake Sullivan, White House national security advisor, Biden will be attending an emergency NATO summit on Thursday. He will also meet with G7 leaders, and speak to the 27 European Union leaders at a session in the European Council.

Biden said he will be coordinating the next phase in military aid to Ukraine.

Biden said that in addition to imposing new sanctions against Russia, he will also work with U.S. allies on tightening existing sanctions to “crackdown on evasion” and ensure strong enforcement.

Russia and the West have been waging a war on Ukraine over chemical weapons attacks in recent times, but without presenting any evidence.

Biden has pledged to not engage in direct conflicts with Russia and has also promised that the United States will protect all NATO territories. Biden has given orders for more U.S. military personnel to NATO’s east flank in order to assure edgy allied.

Biden’s visit to Poland as a NATO member will see him meet U.S. soldiers and experts in humanitarian assistance to help hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians fleeing their homeland and others who are still there.
