WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Senate Democrats’ efforts to attach immigration reforms to a $3.5 trillion spending bill hit a roadblock after the Senate Parliamentarian ruled against the effort.

The Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer stated that Democrats were deeply disappointed by this decision, but they are continuing to fight for lawful status for all immigrants through budget reconciliation. The Senate Democrats are working on alternate proposals, and they will continue to meet with Senators in the days ahead.
