REUTERS/Aly Song/FilesBEIJING (Reuters) – Tesla (NASDAQ:) Inc’s Shanghai factory is expected to produce 300,000 cars in the first nine months of the year, capped by a delivery rush in the end of the July-September quarter, despite a global semiconductor shortage, two sources said.
For domestic and international markets including Japan and Germany, the factory produces Model Y and Model 3 sedans.
According to the China Passenger Car Association, the factory shipped around 240,000 units in its first eight months. Many of these vehicles went on export. Tesla did not provide details about the production of its factory.
They requested anonymity as they are not permitted to discuss the matter with media. Tesla has not yet responded to my request for comment.
An official from the region where Tesla’s factory was located stated that it expects to produce 450,000 cars this year. This includes 66,100 vehicles for export.
As China faces scrutiny over its data security practices and complaints about customer service, Tesla has begun to hire legal and other external relations professionals in China.
