U.S. pledges up to $500 million to prevent African swine fever By Reuters

CHICAGO (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Wednesday pledged up to $500 million to prevent the spread of the fatal pig virus African swine fever, after the disease was detected recently in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

According to the USDA, this money will help to increase and coordinate surveillance, monitoring, and other prevention efforts against the disease that has not been detected in the United States.
