Legendary electric guitar inventor Les Paul’s personal Gibson up for auction By Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters), a guitar that launched rock’n’roll music will go on sale Oct. 13 at Christie’s New York Auctions. The guitar bears the name of Les Paul.

Gene’s son is selling his “Number One” Gibson Les Paul guitar. It was the first production model approved by Gibson. Christie estimates that it will be worth anywhere from $100,000 to $150,000.

“I would have to ask, how much is the Wright brothers’ first plane worth?” What is Thomas Edison’s first lightbulb worth today? Gene declared that his crowning achievement was the Paul guitar. It is also called “The Les Paul Number One.”

Gibson and Les Paul teamed up in 1950 to create an electric guitar with solid body.

He created one of the most famous electric guitars. It was played by Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck.

Gene Paul explained, “And that’s what the rock and rolling guitarists back in the ’60s realized: this was a rock and roll machine.” The instrument can be turned to maximum volume when plugged into an amp stack amplifier of 100 Watts. You can also create distortion if it gets too loud. However, this distortion is manageable.
