(Reuters) – Large oil spillages off California’s coast started washing ashore in Huntington Beach last weekend. This was after an oil rig pipeline had been breached.
Katrina Foley from Orange County, said that an estimated 126,000 barrels of crude oil were spread to an oil slick approximately 13-square miles in size since Saturday’s first report.
She stated that the spillage had irreversible effects on the environment. The spillage was due to a leakage from the Elly oil-rig, she stated. It reached all the way down to Newport Beach.
A local air show was cancelled and beaches closed for swimming.
The U.S. Coast Guard and local agencies flies planes to evaluate the situation and hire contractors to cleanup it.
