Turkey to open 1,000 new markets to counter inflation, Erdogan says By Reuters

ISTANBUL (Reuters – Turkish President Tayyip Turkey said that on Sunday, the government ordered cooperatives in order to open approximately 1,000 markets throughout the country. The purpose is to offer “suitable” prices to consumers as inflation increases towards 20% annually.

Erdogan, after visiting an Istanbul-based agricultural cooperative outlet said “These are places that prices are affordable to our citizens’ wallets.” He added that new outlets were planned to balance out the markets.

Reporters were told that he had given the go-ahead for approximately 1,000 businesses in Turkey to open, with each business starting at 500 square meters.
