Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis has purchased cybercrime investigative company Excygent for an undisclosed amount, hinting that the two will continue to work together to help “dismantle ransomware operations.”
Chainalysis CEO Michael Gronager announced this Tuesday The firm collaborated with Excygent in the seizing of cryptocurrency linked to Silk Road’s now defunct darknet marketplace Silk Road. This was done to shut down an important child abuse site, and disrupt campaigns that finance terrorism. Gronager said staff from Excygent would join the firm’s Investigations and Special Programs team to support investigations of thecryptocurrency used in cybercrimes.
