PARIS (Reuters). Carrefour After exploratory talks between the French retailer and PA: in recent months, the company has decided not to pursue a tie-up with Auchan. The decision was made by Le Figaro on Saturday.
Carrefour’s strategic committee took this decision Thursday following the recommendation from Chief Executive Alexandre Bompard, who considered potential deals with Auchan too complex. Le Figaro stated.
Carrefour and Auchan couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.
Le Monde (another French newspaper) reported that Bompard was looking at options for sector consolidation. His group also had talks with the Mulliez family, which controls Auchan.
Carrefour stated in June that it was considering consolidations, divestitures, or tie-ups with its foreign subsidiaries but hadn’t made any decision about selling assets.
Canada’s Alimentation Couche-Tard renounced its 16.2 Billion Euro ($19.57 Billion) offer for Carrefour, after France objected to the deal. The French government cited food security concerns.
