(Reuters) – Walt Disney (NYSE:) Co. Alan Horn, the man who transformed the company’s media business into a powerhouse and managed blockbusters like “Avengers:Endgame”, and “Black Panther”, will be retiring this year.
Horn, a former captain in the U.S Air Force, joined Disney in 2012. He led the integration at Marvel Studios. This studio is home to many of the most successful box office hits worldwide. Horn oversaw the integration of Marvel Studios, which was home to some of the biggest domestic releases in history.
Horn’s exit is part of a string of managerial changes that Disney has undergone as it moves from the big screen to streaming. Bob Chapek was appointed CEO and replaced Bob Iger, who assumed the position of executive chairman.
Disney appointed Horn as chairman of Disney Studios in 2012. However, he began splitting his duties with Alan Bergman over the past two years. Horn served as the company’s chief creative officer.
Horn, who was an entrepreneur before joining Disney, is credited for the successes of “Seinfeld”, “The Shawshank Redemption”, and Harry Potter franchises.
Others who announced that they would be leaving Disney include Alan Braverman (Disney’s general counsel), Zenia Manya (head of communications) and Gary Marsh (president and chief creative officer at Disney Branded Television).
