WASHINGTON (Reuters] – On Wednesday, President Joe Biden will hold a meeting to celebrate progress in addressing supply chains problems that have been weighing on the economy. Biden challenges both business leaders and union representatives to make more efforts to alleviate shipping backlogs.

A senior official from the administration told reporters that the Port of Los Angeles will be operating 24/7 to help ease congestion at Long Beach and Los Angeles ports.

The official stated that the top three carriers of goods, Wal-Mart, FedEx, and UPS, plan to shift to round-the-clock operations in order to speed up the delivery of goods throughout the country.

Samsung (KS:), Home Depot (NYSE: Target The official stated that (NYSE:) they are increasing the work of their off-peak colleagues to speed up the flow of goods.

The official stated that by taking these actions, the officials are telling the rest of their supply chain to follow suit. Let’s get it moving.”

Officials from the White House are trying to alleviate global supply shortages that have engulfed U.S. ports and highways. They warn Americans they may be facing higher prices and empty shelves during Christmas. They urge patience.

Partly, the COVID-19 global pandemic is responsible for the supply crisis. The global COVID-19 pandemic threatens not only to reduce U.S. spending but it is also a political threat for Biden.

Recent Reuters/Ipsos polls show that the economy is still the number one issue facing both Democrats and Republicans.

Biden and other executives representing the two ports, as well as the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and Teamsters will gather at the White House, at 12:45 p.m. (2345 GMT), with Biden and others.

These efforts will be discussed at 2:20 PM (1820 GMT).

The White House is trying to reduce inflation-inducing supply chain bottlenecks for everything from meat to semiconductors. In June, a taskforce was formed to meet weekly. John Porcari was named “bottleneck czar” to help private-sector businesses find new ways to flow goods.

Many thousands of shipping containers sit on freight ships off the coast of California, awaiting to be loaded at Long Beach and Los Angeles ports. Similar delays exist at the ports in New York City and Savannah, Georgia. Partly the problem is a shortage in warehouse workers or truck drivers who can pick up goods.
