(Reuters) – Federal Reserve Governor Lael Mindard stated Wednesday that U.S. financial regulators would seek to increase credit access for Native American communities.

Brainard prepared comments that stated, “We will focus on and solicit feedback about how to best promote impactful CRA [Community Reinvestment Act] activities in Indian Country,” Brainard added.

Brainard spoke to Oklahoma’s tribal leaders during a Fed Listens event. This series is meant to provide opportunities for communities and Fed policymakers to hear their views on the economy.

Brainard stated that the Pandemic has worsened economic inequalities between Native American and white families. Native American households and businesses face many difficulties, including obtaining credit.

Brainard’s prepared remarks did not include any comments on monetary policies or economic prospects.
