ATHENS, (Reuters) – Aegean Airlines, Greece’s biggest carrier, announced Thursday that it had increased its stake in Romanian Animawings from 25% to 51%. This will allow for a stronger presence on the Romanian market.

According to the Greek company, its investment in 51% of the stake was 1.3 million Euros ($2.06 Million).

Aegean is a Star Alliance member airline. In early 2020, Aegean acquired its stake in Animawings as a tour operator Memento Christian Tour.

Christian Tour was one of the most important tour operators in Romania for 12 years. Aegean arranged chartered flights between Romania and Greece.

Aegean Airlines announced that Animawings will be operating with three Aegean aircraft, which will serve mainly outgoing Romanian tourists by chartered and regular flights.
