REUTERS/Andrew KellyWASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Justice launched a new initiative against discriminatory lending practices on Friday. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the news.
Garland said at a news conference that redlining is still a persisting form of discrimination which harms minorities.
The initiative will allow the authorities to mobilize resources that are focused on providing fair access credit. Fair lending will be addressed on a wider geographic scale than ever before by the initiative, which is more extensive than anything done previously by the Justice Department.
