WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. Navy, Army and Navy tested prototypes of hypersonic weapon components on Wednesday. This will help in the development of new weapons.

These tests took place on the exact same day as Joe Biden, U.S. president, expressed concern about Chinese hypersonic weaponry.

The tests were conducted by Sandia National Laboratories at NASA Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia. This will “inform” the Navy’s Conventional Prompt Strike and Army’s Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), a statement stated.

A flight test will be conducted by the Navy and Army of the Common Hypersonic Missile in Fiscal 2022. This was initiated on October 1.

Hypersonic weapons move in the upper atmosphere faster than sound at five times speed (6,200 kilometers per hour).

In a statement, the Pentagon claimed that these tests demonstrated advanced hypersonic technology, capabilities and prototype systems in an operating environment.

Since 2000, the United States actively pursued hypersonic weapon development as part of its traditional prompt global strikes program.

Such companies include Lockheed Martin Raytheon Technologies (NYSE 🙂 and Raytheon Technologies (NYSE 🙂 work together in developing the United States hypersonic weapons capability.
