LOS ANGELES (Reuters), – Two producers are already stipulating that real guns will not be used in any movie or TV show.

Olivia Wilde (director of “Booksmart”) called upon Hollywood to apply what she called Halyna’s Law. A petition encouraging Baldwin to be the leader in a campaign banning real firearms had received more than 27,000 votes as of Monday.

This campaign resulted from the deaths of Halyna Hutchins, cinematographer, and Joel Souza’s injury on set at Bonanza Creek Ranch (NYSE:), Santa Fe.

The two were hit when a revolver containing live rounds that was being used by Baldwin in a rehearsal https://www.reuters.com/world/us/alec-baldwin-seen-consoling-family-slain-cinematographer-set-problems-mount-2021-10-24 discharged. Authorities said Baldwin had been informed that the gun was empty.

California Senator Dave Cortese stated that he will introduce legislation to prohibit live ammunition and guns capable of firing live bullets from TV and movie sets.

“Those working behind the scenes to entertain and bring joy to millions all over the world shouldn’t go to set worrying if they will return home safely to their family,” Cortese said in a statement.

Productions made in the United States or elsewhere would be exempted from any eventual law.

Walt Disney (NYSE:) Co. Warner Bros. Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ) and NBC TV did not respond to our Monday requests for comments on the future policies regarding guns.

Questions have been raised about the safety of the crew following this tragedy. According to court records, Reid Russel and Souza told Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department six of the cameramen had left earlier that day.

The prop gun has not been used with live bullets and no one has been arrested.

These guns can be real or fake guns and are sometimes used as props to simulate the recoil and flash of an actor pulling the trigger. They usually contain blank cartridges, which lack a bullet but use gunpowder https://www.reuters.com/world/us/prop-guns-spark-debate-after-cinematographers-death-set-2021-10-22, and can be fatal at close range.

“Hollywood: It’s time to create ‘Halyna’s Law,’ which will ban the use of real firearms on film production sets and create a safe working environment for everyone involved,” Wilde tweeted on Sunday.

After the accident, she urged everyone to sign the change.org petition by Bandar Albuliwi (an independent U.S. filmmaker).

Albuliwi stated that “real guns are not needed anymore on film production set.” Sign this petition to urge Alec Baldwin, a Hollywood movie industry executive to take action and ban real firearms from film sets.

Baldwin did not respond Monday to the petition.

Last week, ABC’s police TV series “The Rookie,” announced that no “live” weapons would be allowed on their show. Instead, air guns and computer generated effects will be used.

Eric Kripke (NASDAQ:), executive producer of Amazon’s comedy TV series “The Boys”, tweeted, “no more guns without blanks ever on any of my set.” We’ll be using VFX muzzle Flashes. “Who’s there with me?”
