OTTAWA, (Reuters) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will present a Cabinet Tuesday. Analysts believe that the cabinet should focus on climate change.

Trudeau’s Liberals increased their seats by four to 159 but failed to secure the 170 votes needed to pass legislation in the absence of opposition parties. Minority governments last for two years, rather than a four-year full term.

Trudeau (49) has pledged to invest tens to billions more dollars in five years to support the recovery of the economy from the COVID-19 epidemic. Analysts suggested that Ottawa shift its attention to climate change and should make it a priority.

Peter Donolo is a Hill+Knowlton political strategist who served as communications director for Jean Chretien (Liberal former Prime Minister) and said that the campaign was “very ambitious.”

“I would simplify it…on how Canada is positioned as a winner of the greener international economy over the longer-term, and then how to ensure those benefits are shared more equally,” he stated by phone.

Trudeau may be considering the creation of a climate portfolio, which would bring together policies typically handled by different ministries. According to one Liberal source

At 10:30 AM (1430 GMT), the new Cabinet will take office. Trudeau claims it will consist of equal numbers of women and men, following a precedent he established when he took office in 2015.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland will keep her job, Trudeau said shortly after the vote, and has begun to reduce https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/canada-govt-provinces-agree-covid-19-vaccine-travel-passport-officials-2021-10-21 COVID-19 support programs as the economy recovers and inflation https://www.reuters.com/business/canadas-annual-inflation-rate-hits-44-september-highest-since-2003-2021-10-20 hovers at an 18-year high.

Trudeau was crowned Liberal leader for the third time last month by Trudeau’s win in November’s election. Unhappiness over his decision to call an early election during the pandemic left him short https://www.reuters.com/article/us-canada-election-idAFKBN2GG06L of a majority.

Trudeau says his top priorities are COVID-19 management, affordable housing, climate change mitigation, and supporting economic growth.

Ian Lee from Ottawa’s Carleton University said that “This government is just 18 to 24 months long, so it is absurd to think you can solve all those problems.”

Lee stated that the growth of the green economy should be priority. A U.S.-style climate chiefzar, “with gravitas” and “with skill, who can sharpen elbows and are not afraid,” is a worthy candidate.

According to Liberal officials, Anita Anand is the Public Services and Procurement minister. She played an important part in procuring COVID-19 vaccines. Melanie Joly might be promoted.

Anand could be the next Defence Minister Harjit Sajijan. Two Liberal sources stated that Anand is likely to replace Sajjan.
