(Reuters] – Crown Resorts of Australia announced Friday that it had settled a lawsuit against the company. The class-action suit alleged that Crown Resorts failed to disclose to shareholders a China marketing campaign. This led to a steep fall in casino shares. In 2016, staff members were arrested.
The company said settling the lawsuit https://www.reuters.com/article/us-crown-resorts-lawsuit-idUSKBN1DY028 for A$125 million ($94.25 million) was a “commercial decision” and comes days after Crown was found unsuitable to hold a gambling licence in Melbourne but was allowed to continue running it under supervision.
After it revealed that its employees in China were being held for illegally encouraging gambling, Crown shares fell 14%
Crown was not required to admit liability in the settlement and expects to collect a substantial amount from its insurances. However, it warned that negotiations were still possible.
Crown was plagued with many harmful allegations. These include enabling money laundering, misleading regulators and other charges that a Royal Commission called “disgraceful”.
