U.S. sanctions two Lebanese businessmen and a member of parliament -Breaking

BEIRUT, Reuters – On Thursday the U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions against two Lebanese top contractors and a Hezbollah-related lawmaker over alleged corruption in large scale that had undermined the rule law in Lebanon.

Jihad al-Arab Businessmen and Dany Karey were close to Saad al-Hariri (the former Lebanese Prime Minster) and Gebran Bassil, the Christian politician. They were accused of corruption in relation to state contracts.

Jamil Sayyed, a lawmaker was sanctioned after he allegedly sought to “skirt national banking policies and regulation” and transfer $120million abroad “presumably to enrich him and his associates,” according to a Treasury statement.
