LOS ANGELES, (Reuters) – Alec Baldwin described Saturday’s fatal shooting at the film set as a “one-in-a trillion episode”. He also said that he supports limits on real firearms in movies and TV shows.

Baldwin spoke with reporters in the first interview since the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins, a cinematographer, with a gun that he was informed was not loaded. He said that he had been instructed not to discuss the Santa Fe investigation, New Mexico.

In an unplanned roadside chat with reporters, the actor said that he was not permitted to comment on it because of an ongoing investigation. He had been located in Vermont in small towns by photographers and crews.

Baldwin declared, “We are anxiously waiting the sheriff’s office telling us what they have found.”

Hutchins (42), was killed, and Joel Souza, director of “Rust”, sustained injuries when Baldwin used a loaded gun with real bullets during rehearsals on the set. This was Oct. 21. Baldwin was told that the gun was secure.

Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department said that no charges were filed and it will continue its investigation. The source of live ammunition that made its way onto the set is still unknown.

Baldwin called Hutchins and told her that Hutchins was his friend.

There are occasional accidents that happen on set, but not like this. “This is one in a million episodes,” he stated.

The incident has led to calls by some https://www.reuters.com/world/us/pressure-mounts-ban-real-guns-hollywood-after-baldwin-set-tragedy-2021-10-25 in the industry for real guns, which usually carry blanks or dummy bullets, to be banned on movie and television sets. Baldwin stated that he supports the effort.

Baldwin explained that he is aware of the need to keep firearms off film sets. “Some additional measures must be taken.”

I’m no expert on this subject. I don’t care what other people think is best, and I will work with them to protect people’s safety while on the set.

Baldwin and Hilaria, who are best-known for their TV show “30 Rock”, have six children. He requested that the media stop following Baldwin and his family.
