WASHINGTON (Reuters] – General Motors Co. (NYSE 🙂 has confirmed that production at the Orion Assembly plant, Michigan which produces the Chevrolet Bolt electric automobile, will be halted for an additional three weeks.

In August, the largest U.S. automaker increased its Bolt recall to over 140,000 vehicles in order to replace batteries and address fire risk after several fires.

GM announced that production at the plant was halted in August following the battery recall. The target return date is now Dec. 6. The three-week production stop will begin Nov. 15.

GM announced late last month that it will limit production at Orion for two weeks starting Nov. 1, to optimize battery production logistics and supply chain repairs logistics. This includes providing vehicles as courtesy transport for customers in recall repairs.

Friday, GM announced that replacement batteries for battery modules are the main priority. We will continue to adjust Orion’s production schedule moving forward to best support the recall.”

Mark Reuss, President of GM, stated last month that the company was addressing the recall prior to resuming production.

GM has stopped sales of Bolts. Reuss stated that GM must certify Bolt cars on dealer lots before they are sold, but didn’t say when.

GM revealed in October its partnership with South Korea’s LG Electronics to reimburse the company for $2 billion of estimated expenses and costs related to the Bolt recall.

GM Energy Solution is partnering with LG Energy Solution to construct two U.S. batteries plants.
