WASHINGTON (Reuters] – After lifting travel restrictions for large parts of the global population that were imposed in 2020 to stop the spread COVID-19, the United States anticipates a flood of international travelers crossing their borders via land and air on Monday.

Delta Air Lines (NYSE 🙂 Chief Executive Ed Bastian warned that travelers need to be ready for long waits.

Delta claimed that the U.S. has seen a 450% rise in international point of sale bookings over the previous six weeks.
Kevin Munoz, White House spokesperson said via Twitter (NYSE:) “As high demand is expected when the US lifts existing land and air travel restrictions Monday mornings, we are taking crucial steps to prepare by providing additional resources.”
Biden’s administration met with U.S. airline representatives to discuss how to handle the increased number of travelers arriving at U.S. airports. It also warned those traveling from Canada or Mexico via land, ferry or boat that they should be ready for long waits beginning Monday.

Most international flights should operate on Monday at full capacity. The following week will see high passenger volumes.
As they did for the COVID-19 tests, airlines will also check international travel documents for proof of vaccination. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCP) will check documents and ask travelers whether they are vaccinated at border crossings.
The new vaccination requirements are not applicable to children under 18. The new exemptions are also open to non-tourist traveler from more than 50 countries where the national vaccination rate is less that 10%.
New contact tracing regulations will also be in effect Monday. They require airlines to obtain information from international passengers “to follow-up with travelers who were exposed to COVID-19 variants and other pathogens.”
