Madrid’s National Police have opened a formal investigation into claims that a Madrid citizen attempted to kidnap and rob him. He claimed that he was also tortured in order to disclose his private keys for his crypto wallet.

The said event happened at Zaryn Dentzel’s apartment on Oct 9. Dentzel answered the doorbell expecting a guest but was overpowered by several hooded men. They then assaulted him and his company. The men were repeatedly threatened with torture and attacked until Dentzel surrendered critical information about his bank accounts and cryptocurrency wallets.

Dentzel was a long-term shareholder in Bitcoin and is believed to have amassed several millions of euros. His fortune was made by founding the Tuenti social network in Spain.

When asked about the incident, the guard at the gatehouse stated that he had not seen any suspicious persons enter or leave the premises. The National Police Madrid confirmed the detention of no suspects, but they believe it could have been done by a group of Eastern European criminals.

According to the report, although the thieves “reportedly made off with devices including laptops, phones, and a USB drive,” they were not able to steal any of his cryptocurrency.

Crypto attacks in real life are increasing. Earlier this year, a student at Canterbury Christ Church University in England was robbed of £6,000 ($8,098) worth of Bitcoin at knifepoint when eight thugs invaded his dormitory. Langley also saw a 24-year old arrested after he robbed a Bitcoin ATM belonging to a local business.
