(Reuters) – Neel Kashkari, President of Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank said Tuesday that he thinks the current forces keeping people from the labour market and driving up prices are temporary and that they will disappear as COVID-19 becomes endemic.

Kashkari stated that “we are receiving these mixed signals from the economy.” He spoke at an Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce Event. Kashkari mentioned wages increasing, while there were an estimated 5 to 7 million fewer job openings than was expected if COVID-19 had not occurred.

He stated that he was optimistic and expects to get more information in the coming three, six and nine months. This will provide clarity and insight into the future outlook of inflation as well as the labour market.
